Case Study 1: Impact of Not Planning An Event Properly


Syam will married soon. He and his significant other started to plan out their dream wedding. His soon to be wife handle wedding outfit and wedding while Syam handle the wedding venue and wedding caterer. Syam had already booked the venue and has paid out the deposit but he choose not to use caterer provided by the venue.

He thought that it is too expensive thus unnecessary. He began to ask his friend and family to recommend a caterer. He find one that suite his expense. The caterer began to ask how many people are estimated to come at the wedding. Syam give a very low estimate because the RSVP are handled by both of his and soon to be wife parents.

On the wedding day, number of guest far exceed Syam estimate. As a result, food started to finish faster than expected. Some of the guest leave without getting their food. Syam apologize to the guest for his miscalculation and mistake. Syam will never forgot the moment and promised himself not to make the mistake twice and made a proper plan the next time he had to host an event.

Case Study 2: Impact of Hiring Incompetent Leader To Handle An Event


Nai was a person who seek fame and reputation. She will do anything to earn respect from her friends. One day, her lecturer ask her to lead and organize a trip to overseas for her class. She sees this as a way for her to shine, thus she took the task without hesitation although she had never managed an overseas trip before. She started to scout some of her classmate to work with her.

Once her team is assembled, she began to plan for the location of the trip and decided to pick Taiwan as a reasonable destination. Here the problem started to arise. To go for an overseas trip and get the budget from university, she need to prepare a clear and detailed paperwork. The paperwork must include objective of such trip, name of person in charge, and estimated budget (hotel room, flight ticket, etc) for the trip.

As she has little experience in managing such task, she create an easy way out and ask her team to prepare it. Of course, this angered her team who viewed her as incompetent boss rather than intelligent leader. It got to a point whereby her teammate refuse to cooperate to handle task that given to them. Nai were very surprised by this turn of an event. She also started to notice that her friend avoided her and talk behind her back.

In the end, Nai forfeit herself from the position of project manager for the trip which end the trip to Taiwan completely. Nai got her fame that she seek so much, but not in a good way though. She is viewed by her friends and lecturer as an incompetent person who only seek fame but has nothing to show for it.

Case Study 3: A Good Event Manager Equal Successful Event


Shah is a fresh graduate who just has been accepted to work in a state government. One day, his supervisor want him to oversee a CSR conducted by his department. He reluctant as he has little experience in handling this type of program, but opportunity like this only come once, thus he took it. First thing that he does as a team leader is assemble a reliable people to work with him.

As some of his colleague has far more experience than him and much older, he gave order in a polite and manner. He also hears their opinion thoroughly and adjust to the changes highlighted by his teammate. He is a walk the talk leader and any task that he had to handle, he handled it quickly so that the rest of his team can take the piece and puzzled it together.

He also handled arguments in a very diplomatic manner. This won the respect of his colleague although they had far more experience and older than him. He is also seen by his colleague as team player when he is willing to help a teammate in their task although he is not required to do so. In the end, the CSR event is a success.

Shah not only proved that he can handle an event but also proved his leadership and charisma by led a more experienced and older teammate to work together with him in a harmonious and team spirited way, something that only a few people in the whole world can do. His supervisor are very pleased and as a result, Shah is promoted 2 years later.
